Dangote Cement Plc is a Nigerian multinational publicly traded cement manufacturer headquartered in Lagos. The company is engaged in the manufacture, preparation, import, packaging, and distribution of cement and related products in Nigeria and has plants or import terminals in other African countries.
Dangote Cement PLC is operating in other countries through subsidiaries, either involved in the manufacturing and sale of cement or in the construction of cement plants/grinding plants/terminals. Integrated plants are either operating or under construction stage in Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Kenya, whereas cement grinding plants are either under operation or under installation in Cameroon, Ghana, Cote d'ivoire, Liberia and south Africa. There is a cement terminal under operation in Ghana and one under construction in Sierra Leone. The company commissioned its first cement terminal in December 2010 and first produced cement from an integrated plant in November, 2006.
Dangote Cement Plc is a subsidiary of Dangote Industries, which was founded by Aliko Dangote in 1981 as a trading business with an initial focus on importation of bagged cement and other commodities such as rice, sugar, flour, salt and fish.
Over time, the Group began to import bulk cement into the Apapa and Port Harcourt terminals, which it then bagged for distribution. Through the 1990s, the Group made a strategic decision to transition from a trading based business into a fully-fledged integrated manufacturing operation. This is where our ambitious plan to become Africa’s leading Cement producer began.
