In 1973 the first Lidl branch opened in Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim. Today we are one of the leading companies in the German food retail sector and as a reliable local supplier we are represented across the board with our branches. We currently operate around 3,200 branches and 39 logistics centers in Germany with around 83,000 employees.
When we started as a wholesale grocery store in Germany in the 1930s, we had clear plans to offer quality and freshness at the best possible Lidl price.
We are discounters out of conviction and do our business with a system, simple and uncomplicated. We communicate with our employees and partners on an equal footing and focus on fairness. Our success is based on a standardized branch system that is characterized by efficiency, customer proximity and the best quality at affordable Lidl prices - but always in the awareness of our responsibility towards employees, society and the environment.
